Resting on an acupressure mat during an attack

Tip from u/AceOfStace27 on Reddit. · Read the original post

One person found relief during attacks by lying flat on a spiked acupressure mat. They noted that the flood of intense tactile sensation seemed to compete with and crowd out their head pain. Those curious about the sensory distraction without a specialized mat can try lying on a coarse textured towel or using direct fingertip pressure.

What you'll need

You only need one of these — not all of them.

The original tip uses

Spiked acupressure mat

or

Rough textured bath towel

Fingertip pressure — no tool needed

Good to know

The spikes can overwhelm an already sensitized nervous system. Start with a layer of clothing between you and the mat, and skip it if your skin feels hypersensitive during this attack. Avoid broken skin, and check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or have a circulation condition.
